Each card holds keys generated inside an EAL6+ certified chip by its own hardware random number generator, and no seed phrase is shown by default, so there is nothing written down for anyone to find. The tradeoff is that the card has no screen: transaction details are verified on the phone. An access code blocks a thief who takes the cards, and Tangem says the software inside a card cannot be modified.

Tangem is a hardware wallet shaped like a bank card. There is no screen, no battery and no cable: you sign by tapping the card against your phone over NFC. It is sold only in sets, two cards for $59.90 or three for $69.90, because the backup is another card rather than a piece of paper.

That design decision is the whole review. Keys are generated inside the card's EAL6+ certified chip by its own hardware random number generator and never leave it, and in the recommended setup there is no seed phrase at all, so there is nothing to photograph, type into a phishing page or leave in a drawer. Tangem does allow a seed phrase if you want one, generated in the app or imported from another wallet, and its own FAQ is blunt about the tradeoff: a phrase can be copied and stolen in a way an on-chip key cannot.

The cost is verification. With no screen of its own, the card cannot show you what you are about to sign, so you check the details on your phone, which is the device most likely to be compromised. That is a real step down from a wallet with an independent display, and it is the reason a Tangem set is a better fit for everyday balances than for a life savings. An access code protects the cards if they are stolen. Lose every card in a set without having created a seed phrase and the funds are gone.

One claim of Tangem's is worth repeating because it addresses the obvious worry about a card that depends on an app: Tangem says the wallet is fully autonomous and that no Tangem server sits between your card, your phone and the blockchain. Free standard shipping starts at $89, and a three card set costs $69.90, so most buyers will pay for delivery or add an accessory.

Tangem's before-you-buy FAQ closes explicitly on the exclusion side: delivery to any country except a named list of 40 jurisdictions, among them Afghanistan, Belarus, Burundi, Colombia, Cuba, Iran, Laos, Russia, Syria, Vietnam and Zimbabwe. These 201 countries are the other side of that list. Only 30 names are actually subtracted from the 231 countries this site covers, because nine of the 40 are territories that are not among them (Aland Islands, Antarctica, Bouvet Island, French Southern Territories, Heard Island and McDonald Islands, North Korea, Kosovo, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, Svalbard and Jan Mayen) and one country is named twice, as Congo-Kinshasa and as the Democratic Republic of Congo.
