Armenia is an easy answer: yes, you can buy bitcoin legally, and Binance offers the deepest markets for Armenian users, with Coinmama and itez covering quick card purchases sent straight to your own wallet. The country moved from a legal gray zone to a full framework when its Law on Crypto-Assets took effect in July 2025, putting service providers under Central Bank of Armenia licensing and giving existing firms until January 31, 2027 to qualify. The dram has no direct pairs on major platforms, so most people buy in dollars with a Visa or Mastercard or settle P2P trades by local bank transfer. The new law also steers crypto dealings onto non-cash rails, so keep everything running through banks and cards.

Watch: how to choose an exchange
This is our general video rather than a walkthrough for Armenia. It shows the method in two steps: first the country you are buying in, then the exchange. You have done step one by being here, so start from the exchanges ranked above.
We have not filmed a walkthrough for Armenia yet, so this is our general one, from our YouTube channel @dontgetrekt. It also sits on the home page, next to the country search it starts from.
Do you need a VPN?
A VPN hides which sites you visit from the network you are on and from your internet provider, which is worth having when you move money over a connection you do not control. It does not get you past an exchange's identity checks: every platform we list verifies who you are no matter where you connect from.
If you want one, the strongest records on our list belong to NordVPN (6 independent no-logs audits, the most of any service we review), Windscribe (its no-logs claim tested in the real world 3 times) and Proton VPN (the most audited service with a free tier).

Legal status and regulation in Armenia
Bitcoin is legal in Armenia and now formally regulated. The Law on Crypto-Assets, adopted in 2025 and in force since July 2025, made Armenia the first South Caucasus country with a standalone crypto framework: service providers need a Central Bank of Armenia license, and firms already operating have until January 31, 2027 to obtain one. Companion rules push crypto transactions onto non-cash channels, and operating without a license can carry penalties up to criminal liability.
Words worth knowing before you buy in Armenia
Picked from what this page already says about Armenia, not from a standard list.
- Withdrawal feeInternational wireA withdrawal fee is what an exchange charges to send your bitcoin out to your own wallet, and it is usually a flat amount rather than the real network cost.
- Peer-to-peer exchangeP2P trades in dramA peer-to-peer exchange is a marketplace where individuals trade bitcoin with each other directly, with the platform holding the coins in escrow while the buyer sends payment by whatever local method both agreed.
- Maker and taker fees4 venues to compareMaker and taker fees are the two prices an exchange charges for a trade: less if your order waits in the book, more if it takes an existing order out.
Frequently asked questions
Is bitcoin legal in Armenia?
Yes. Armenia adopted a dedicated Law on Crypto-Assets in 2025, in force since July 2025. Buying and holding are legal, and crypto service providers must be licensed by the Central Bank of Armenia, with existing firms given until January 31, 2027 to qualify.
Can I buy bitcoin with Armenian drams?
Rarely directly. Major international platforms do not list dram trading pairs, so most Armenians fund accounts with a Visa or Mastercard in dollars or euros, or arrange P2P trades settled by local bank transfer.
Can I buy bitcoin for cash in Armenia?
The new framework requires crypto-asset transactions to run through non-cash channels, allowing only a small cash amount during a transition period. Plan on bank and card rails rather than cash deals.
Do exchanges serving Armenia require identity verification?
Yes. The Law on Crypto-Assets imposes full anti-money-laundering and KYC obligations on providers, and international platforms like Binance apply identity checks to Armenian users regardless of local rules.
