What Elixir is
Elixir is Poland's standard interbank transfer system for the zloty, operated since 1994 by Krajowa Izba Rozliczeniowa (KIR), the national clearing house. Orders can be sent to it at any time, but banks settle them on a net basis in three sessions each working day, with final settlement through the National Bank of Poland's SORBNET2 system. It carries ordinary transfers, tax payments and direct debits, and it is what a Polish bank sends when you do not pick the instant option: Express Elixir is the instant sibling and Euro Elixir handles euro.
