Highest editorial rating first. A warning pill means the review carries a dated status note worth reading before you trust the wallet with money.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the best bitcoin wallet for macOS?

Bitcoin Core, rated 4.7 out of 5, the highest score among the 20 wallets for macOS we review on the product rubric published on our about page. It is free to download. Custody: self-custodial, keys in a wallet file on a machine that validates every block for itself. Sparrow Wallet is next at 4.7.

Are there bitcoin-only wallets for macOS?

Yes: Bitcoin Core, Sparrow Wallet, Electrum, Blockstream Jade, Wasabi Wallet and Coldcard, which support no other coin. A smaller codebase and no altcoin features is a deliberate design choice, and the bitcoin-only hub compares every wallet that makes it.

Which hardware wallets work with macOS?

BitBox02, Trezor Safe 3, Trezor Safe 5, Blockstream Jade, Ledger Nano S Plus, Ledger Flex, Ledger Nano X, OneKey, Ledger Stax, Coldcard and KeepKey: their companion app runs on macOS, and the keys stay on the device. The rest of this page is software that runs on macOS itself.

Which wallets for macOS carry a warning?

Wasabi Wallet: zkSNACKs announced on May 2, 2024, days after US prosecutors charged the founders of Samourai Wallet, that it would discontinue the coinjoin coordination service behind Wasabi's headline privacy feature, and switched it off on June 1, 2024. Coldcard: A build error introduced in a March 2021 firmware migration left seed generation drawing on a software pseudorandom number generator instead of the hardware one, and attackers found it before Coinkite did. KeepKey: Kraken Security Labs published a voltage glitching attack in 2019 that lifts the encrypted seed off a KeepKey with about 15 minutes of physical access and roughly 75 dollars of equipment, then brute forces the short PIN that protects it. Atomic Wallet: On June 2 and 3, 2023, more than 5,500 Atomic Wallet users had their balances emptied in a single coordinated event. Each review carries the full note with sources.

Which wallets for macOS are no longer available?

Jaxx Liberty, Ledger Nano S (replaced by the Ledger Nano S Plus), Trezor Model One (replaced by the Trezor Safe 3), Trezor Model T (replaced by the Trezor Safe 5). Their pages say what happened, with dates, and name wallets that still work.

Every wallet we review compares the whole roster, hardware and software, with what each status means.
