MetaMask Card review

Availability has changed
MetaMask Card spends directly from a user's self-custodial MetaMask wallet rather than a custodial exchange balance, and its two-tier structure trades a modest free rate for a meaningfully higher rate behind a paid subscription.
The free Virtual tier costs nothing annually and earns a flat 1% cashback on eligible purchases, paid in mUSD, MetaMask's own USD-pegged stablecoin issued by Bridge (a Stripe company). The Metal tier costs $199 per year and pays 3% cashback on the first $10,000 of spend each year, dropping to 1% on spend beyond that annual cap; Metal cardholders also get $0 foreign transaction fees versus 1% on the Virtual tier, and free ATM withdrawals up to $1,200 per month before a 2% fee applies (compared to a flat 2% ATM fee on Virtual with no free allowance). Both tiers earn 1 MetaMask Rewards point per dollar spent, a separate program redeemable for fee discounts, token allocations, and exclusive airdrops on top of the mUSD cashback.
Conversion fees vary by what asset is spent: stablecoins convert with no fee, while wrapped ETH carries a 0.875% conversion fee and other tokens carry roughly 0.5%. The card is available in 45 named countries and territories concentrated in the EEA and Latin America, plus Canada, Panama, Uruguay, and several European microstates and territories, but MetaMask's own page states that signups for new US and UK cardholders are temporarily closed, which is notable since both are core target markets for a Consensys product.

Cashback is paid in mUSD, MetaMask's own USD-pegged stablecoin issued by Bridge, a Stripe company; it previously paid out in USDC before switching to mUSD.
Is MetaMask Card self-custodial?
Yes, the card spends directly from a user's own MetaMask wallet rather than a custodial exchange balance, converting the chosen crypto to local fiat at the point of sale.
