ether.fi Cash review

Last reviewed 2026-08-25

ether.fi Cash lets you spend against a self-custodied crypto vault without selling your holdings outright, borrowing against your portfolio instead, and its cashback is banded by monthly spend rather than a single flat percentage.

The free Core tier pays 3% cashback on the first $2,000 of spend each calendar month, stepping down to 1% for the next $1,000, then 0.5% beyond $3,000. Luxe, unlocked by earning 10,000 monthly membership points (roughly $3,334 of spend) or staking 15,000 ETHFI, keeps the 3% band going up to $10,000 of monthly spend before stepping down. Pinnacle, unlocked at 50,000 points or 100,000 staked ETHFI, extends the 3% band to $50,000 of monthly spend. An invitation-only VIP tier pays a higher 4% on its first $50,000 of monthly spend. A separate Business tier pays a flat 1% on all spend with no banding. All spend tiers reset at the start of each calendar month.

On fees, there is no annual fee at any tier. Foreign exchange charges have two layers: an underlying FX base rate of roughly 1% applied by the network, plus a tier-dependent margin ether.fi itself adds on top, ranging 0-0.5% on Core, 0-0.25% on Luxe, and no added margin at all on Pinnacle or VIP. ATM withdrawals cost a flat 2% per withdrawal, capped at $500 per transaction with a maximum of three withdrawal attempts (successful or declined) in any rolling 24-hour period, limiting practical daily cash access to roughly $1,500. Physical card issuance costs $50 on Core, $100 on Luxe and Pinnacle, and is free for VIP; virtual cards cost $10 to issue at Core through Pinnacle and are free for VIP.

Where you can get the ether.fi Cash

ether.fi publishes its own supported-country table, and this list is that table rather than an inference. Two things it does not say plainly. Belgium and Ireland are listed with no physical card, so they are virtual-card only. And the US side is not the fifty states minus an exclusion list: ether.fi names thirty-one supported states plus the District of Columbia, and Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee appear on neither its supported nor its unsupported table.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Fully non-custodial, spending against a self-held crypto vault rather than a custodial balance
  • No annual fee at any of the four membership tiers
  • Higher tiers reduce or eliminate the FX margin entirely, down to 0% at Pinnacle and VIP
  • 3% cashback band scales up to $50,000 of monthly spend at the Pinnacle tier

What to watch

  • Cashback is banded, not flat: heavy spenders on lower tiers fall to just 0.5% once they exceed their tier's spend cap
  • ATM access is tightly capped at $500 per withdrawal and 3 attempts per 24 hours, limiting practical cash access to about $1,500/day
  • Physical card issuance costs $50-$100 depending on tier, unlike most competitors' free physical cards
  • Sources disagree on the exact reward asset (SCR/SCRL, wETH, or USDC across different documentation), so the payout token should be confirmed in-app before relying on it

Frequently asked questions

What is the real cashback rate on ether.fi Cash if I spend more than the band?

The 3% rate only applies up to your tier's monthly spend cap ($2,000 on Core, $10,000 on Luxe, $50,000 on Pinnacle); spend beyond that drops to 1%, and spend beyond a second, higher threshold drops further to 0.5% for the rest of that month.

How much does an ATM withdrawal cost on ether.fi Cash?

ATM withdrawals cost a flat 2% fee, are capped at $500 per transaction, and are limited to a maximum of three attempts (successful or declined) in any rolling 24-hour period.

Do I need to stake ETHFI to unlock higher ether.fi Cash tiers?

No, tiers can be unlocked either by staking ETHFI (15,000 for Luxe, 100,000 for Pinnacle) or by earning the equivalent membership points through card spend alone.

Is ether.fi Cash available outside the United States?

Yes. ether.fi publishes a supported-country table covering most of Western Europe including the United Kingdom and Switzerland, much of Latin America and the Caribbean, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia and New Zealand, and the Gulf states. Belgium and Ireland are listed for the virtual card only. The card itself is denominated in USD wherever it is issued.
