What is Daviplata?
DaviPlata is a mobile wallet run by Banco Davivienda in Colombia. Legally it is a depósito de bajo monto, a low amount deposit account opened from a phone with an ID document and no maintenance fee, covered by Fogafín deposit insurance. Colombians use it to receive and send money, pay bills, buy online, and take cash out at ATMs and authorised agent points. For funding purposes it behaves like a light bank account addressed by your phone number.
- Speed
- Money moves in seconds in both directions: DaviPlata is on Bre-B, the Banco de la República's instant payment service, which the central bank says runs 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
- Cost
- The account carries no maintenance fee, and Davivienda states that up to 65 UVT of movements a month stay exempt from Colombia's 4x1,000 financial transaction tax.
- Limits
- As a low amount deposit it is capped at 210.50 UVT for both the balance you may hold at any moment and the debits you may make in a calendar month.

Do you need a VPN?
A VPN hides which sites you visit from the network you are on and from your internet provider, which is worth having when you move money over a connection you do not control. It does not get you past an exchange's identity checks: every platform we list verifies who you are no matter where you connect from.
If you want one, the strongest records on our list belong to NordVPN (6 independent no-logs audits, the most of any service we review), Windscribe (its no-logs claim tested in the real world 3 times) and Proton VPN (the most audited service with a free tier).

Frequently asked questions
Which exchanges accept Daviplata in Colombia?
Of the 5 exchanges we recommend in Colombia, Binance accepts Daviplata for funding purchases. Worth knowing before you fund: Binance, through P2P counterparties, not a Binance-operated rail.
Is buying bitcoin with Daviplata legal in Colombia?
Bitcoin is legal to buy and hold in Colombia, but exchanges remain unregulated: crypto is classified as an intangible asset rather than currency, and it is not legal tender. The Superintendencia Financiera has run pilot programs with exchanges and issued repeated warnings, while Bill 510 of 2025, a licensing framework for virtual asset service providers, passed its first debate in Congress but is not yet law. Until it passes, platforms serving Colombians operate without a local licence.
How long does a Daviplata deposit take?
Money moves in seconds in both directions: DaviPlata is on Bre-B, the Banco de la República's instant payment service, which the central bank says runs 24 hours a day, every day of the year. That is the rail itself; an exchange may hold a first deposit for longer while it verifies your account.
What does it cost to buy bitcoin with Daviplata?
The account carries no maintenance fee, and Davivienda states that up to 65 UVT of movements a month stay exempt from Colombia's 4x1,000 financial transaction tax. Any fee the exchange adds on top is separate, and is shown per exchange above.
