Is buying bitcoin with Credit or debit card legal in Kenya?

Bitcoin is legal in Kenya and the sector is newly regulated. The Virtual Assets Service Providers Act, 2025, passed by Parliament on October 7, 2025 and in force from November 4, 2025, gives the Central Bank of Kenya and the Capital Markets Authority licensing and supervisory powers over exchanges, brokers, custodians, and stablecoin issuers. Licensing is being phased in under the Virtual Asset Service Providers Regulations, 2026, so check a platform's status before trusting it with large sums.
