Bitcoin access is restricted in Iran
Bitcoin access is restricted in Iran, and CEX.IO does not serve residents of Iran either: Iran is on the list of restricted countries that CEX.IO itself publishes, quoted below with the date it was read. Holding bitcoin is not itself criminalised in Iran, but the environment is heavily restricted from two directions.

Where this comes from
Derived from CEX.IO's support article listing the countries and territories it does not currently support, https://support.cex.io/en/articles/4560858-the-following-countries-and-territories-are-not-currently-supported-by-cex-io, read on 2026-09-05. It is an exclusion list: every country listed here is a sourced no, and a country absent from it is unknown rather than served. The article gives international and local regulation as the reason, and also names North Korea, which has no guide on this site and is not listed; availability by US state is covered on the state pages from the separate licence table.
What is actually allowed in Iran
Holding bitcoin is not itself criminalised in Iran, but the environment is heavily restricted from two directions. Domestically, the Central Bank of Iran bans banks and payment providers from processing cryptocurrency transactions and has repeatedly moved against rial on-ramps, while licensed mining operates under a state framework. Internationally, comprehensive US and EU sanctions mean nearly every regulated global exchange excludes Iranian residents and blocks Iranian IP addresses, KYC documents, and bank rails.

Why does CEX.IO not serve Iran?
