Nexo Card review
Last reviewed 2026-08-24
Nexo Card's defining feature is the one-tap switch between Debit Mode, which spends digital assets directly, and Credit Mode, which borrows against a crypto portfolio starting at 1.9% annual interest so the underlying assets are never sold; only Credit Mode purchases earn cashback.
Cashback in Credit Mode requires a Nexo account balance above $5,000 in digital assets to join Nexo's Loyalty Program, which then places a cardholder into one of four tiers based on the ratio of NEXO Token holdings to overall portfolio value: Base earns 0.5% in NEXO Tokens or 0.1% in BTC, Silver earns 0.7% or 0.2%, Gold earns 1% or 0.3%, and Platinum earns 2% in NEXO Tokens or 0.5% in BTC, with the cardholder able to switch which asset they earn in at any time. A virtual card can be activated with as little as $50 in a Nexo account, while ordering a free physical card requires a balance above $5,000 and at least Gold Loyalty Tier status.
There are no monthly, annual, or inactivity card fees. Free ATM withdrawals scale by Loyalty Tier, from up to €200/£180 per month at Base to up to €2,000/£1,800 per month at Platinum, with a 2% fee (minimum 1.99 EUR/GBP) applying above the free allowance. Foreign transaction fees also depend on both region and day of week: within the EEA, UK, or Switzerland the fee is 0.2% on weekdays and 0.7% on weekends, while transactions in the rest of the world cost 2% on weekdays and 2.5% on weekends. Unspent balances also earn interest, up to roughly 13% per year, paid out daily.

Where you can get the Nexo Card
Nexo publishes no country list for the card. This list is the European Economic Area, which is the eligibility test its own card page supports: the card is offered through Nexo's EEA entity under MiCA and MiFID authorisations. Nexo's fee table prices the EEA, the UK and Switzerland as one region, so UK and Swiss residents should check eligibility in the app rather than read that as a yes.
Pros and cons
What works
- Credit Mode lets you spend without selling your crypto, retaining upside exposure
- No monthly, annual, or inactivity card fee
- Unspent balance earns daily-compounding interest up to roughly 13% per year
- Free ATM allowance scales meaningfully with Loyalty Tier, up to €2,000/month at Platinum
What to watch
- Cashback only applies in Credit Mode, not when spending directly from crypto in Debit Mode
- Requires a $5,000+ digital asset balance just to join the Loyalty Program and start earning cashback
- Foreign transaction fees outside the EEA/UK/Switzerland run 2-2.5%, notably higher than the 0.2-0.7% domestic-region rate
- A physical card requires at least Gold Loyalty Tier status, a higher bar than the virtual card's $50 minimum
Frequently asked questions
Do I earn cashback if I spend from my crypto balance directly on Nexo Card?
No, cashback is only earned when the card is set to Credit Mode, which borrows against your crypto rather than spending it directly; Debit Mode spending earns no cashback.
How much do I need to hold to earn Nexo Card cashback?
You need a digital asset balance above $5,000 to join Nexo's Loyalty Program, and your cashback tier then depends on the ratio of NEXO Tokens you hold relative to your total portfolio.
Does Nexo Card have foreign transaction fees?
Yes. Within the EEA, UK, or Switzerland the fee is 0.2 percent on weekdays and 0.7 percent on weekends; transactions in the rest of the world cost 2 percent on weekdays and 2.5 percent on weekends.
Can I get a physical Nexo Card for free?
Yes, physical card shipping is free, but ordering one requires a digital asset balance above $5,000 and at least Gold Loyalty Tier status; a virtual card only requires $50.
