The payout rails in India

Bank Withdraw

Paid out by ZebPay.

A local bank transfer moves money between two accounts inside a single country's own payment system, with no correspondent bank and no currency conversion. The scheme is national and different everywhere: SEPA credit transfers and SEPA Instant in the euro area, FedNow and ACH in the United States, Pix in Brazil. The BIS counts fast payment systems live in more than 100 jurisdictions, and the FedNow Service, operated by the Federal Reserve since July 2023, runs a 24 hour business day every day including weekends and holidays. For someone funding an exchange in their own currency this is normally the cheapest option.

The rail itself: Instant rails settle in seconds, and the ECB requires euro instant credit transfers to reach the payee within ten seconds, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, while older batch transfers still take one or two business days.

Instant withdrawal

Paid out by WazirX.

IMPS, the Immediate Payment Service, is India's round the clock interbank transfer rail. It is run by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and reaches customers through their own bank's app, net banking, ATMs and branches rather than through any NPCI product of its own. A transfer moves rupees from one Indian bank account to another using the account number and IFSC code, or a mobile number and MMID. Banks offer it alongside NEFT and UPI.

The rail itself: Credit is immediate and the service runs 24 hours a day, every day of the year, weekends and bank holidays included.

NEFT withdrawal

Paid out by WazirX.

NEFT, National Electronic Funds Transfer, is a nationwide centralised payment system owned and operated by the Reserve Bank of India. It moves rupees between bank accounts using the beneficiary's account number and IFSC code, and unlike UPI it settles in batches rather than payment by payment. It is the usual fallback for an exchange deposit larger than a UPI transaction will carry.

The rail itself: NEFT runs round the clock on all days and settles in half hourly batches, with the beneficiary bank required to credit the account within two hours of the batch settling.
