Alaska pairs a nearly full exchange roster with zero state income tax, a combination only a handful of states offer. The single asterisk is Binance.US, which does not accept Alaska residents. Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini, River, Swan, Strike, and Coinmama all do, with the standard national rails: free ACH bank transfers, plus wires and debit cards when you want the bitcoin sooner. State licensing caught up recently. The Division of Banking and Securities once licensed money transmitters under agreements that expressly excluded virtual currency, then amended its regulations so that from January 1, 2023 crypto transmission requires a full Alaska money transmitter license. When you eventually sell, Alaska takes nothing, since it levies no personal income tax; the federal capital gains bill still comes due.

Is bitcoin legal in Alaska?
Bitcoin is legal in Alaska. The Division of Banking and Securities, inside the Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development, regulates money transmission, and regulatory amendments adopted in 2022 pulled virtual currency inside the licensing perimeter effective January 1, 2023. Before that change, crypto companies operated under limited licensing agreements stating that their licenses did not cover virtual currency. Federal FinCEN registration and anti-money-laundering rules apply on top of the state regime.
