Indodax review
Indodax is the Indonesian exchange with the widest set of ways to pay, and the one whose two pricing tiers differ enough to matter.
Licensed by Otoritas Jasa Keuangan as a Digital Financial Asset Trader, it has operated since 2014 and is the largest platform in the country by user count. OJK took over crypto supervision from the commodities regulator Bappebti in January 2025 and now publishes a dated whitelist; Indodax has been on it throughout.
Pricing splits the usual way. The Pro interface charges 0.10 percent maker and 0.20 percent taker. The Lite interface charges no maker fee but 0.3 percent taker, which sounds generous until you notice most casual buyers are takers. Rupiah withdrawals cost a flat 10,000 rupiah.
Funding is where it stands alone. Bank transfers are free, virtual account deposits cost a small flat fee, and the e-wallets Indonesians actually carry all work: DANA and OVO at 1.67 percent, GoPay at 2 percent. Those surcharges are real, so use a bank transfer when you can, but no other licensed platform reaches wallet-only buyers this way. Licensed Indonesian platforms also withhold the 0.21 percent final income tax automatically, so your tax on a trade is handled at source.

Pros and cons
What works
- The only OJK-licensed platform confirmed to accept GoPay, OVO and DANA, which reaches buyers who have a wallet but no bank
- Pro fees of 0.10 percent maker and 0.20 percent taker are competitive with anything local
- Indonesia's oldest and largest exchange, operating since 2014 and continuously on the OJK whitelist
- Free rupiah bank transfer deposits and automatic withholding of the 0.21 percent final income tax
What to watch
- E-wallet deposits carry 1.67 to 2 percent surcharges, so they cost real money against a free bank transfer
- The Lite interface charges 0.3 percent taker, triple what Pro charges most buyers
- USDT market fees run higher than the rupiah market because of tax and exchange charges
Fees in detail
- maker
- 0.10 percent on Pro, zero on Lite
- taker
- 0.20 percent on Pro, 0.3 percent on Lite
- spread note
- Lite's zero maker fee is less useful than it sounds, because casual buyers are almost always takers and pay 0.3 percent there.
- deposit note
- Bank transfers are free and virtual accounts carry a small flat fee. DANA and OVO cost 1.67 percent, GoPay 2 percent.
- withdrawal note
- Rupiah withdrawals cost a flat 10,000 rupiah, with a 100,000 rupiah minimum.

Frequently asked questions
Can I buy bitcoin with GoPay, OVO or DANA?
On Indodax, yes. Its own fee schedule lists DANA and OVO at 1.67 percent and GoPay at 2 percent. Those surcharges are steep against a free bank transfer, so use the wallets only when a bank transfer is not an option.
What is the difference between Indodax Lite and Pro?
Pro charges 0.10 percent maker and 0.20 percent taker. Lite charges no maker fee but 0.3 percent taker, and most casual buyers are takers, so Pro is usually cheaper in practice.
Is Indodax licensed in Indonesia?
Yes. It holds a Digital Financial Asset Trader licence from Otoritas Jasa Keuangan, which took over crypto supervision from Bappebti in January 2025 and publishes a dated whitelist of licensed platforms.
How is my trade taxed in Indonesia?
Licensed platforms connected to the national crypto exchange withhold a 0.21 percent final income tax automatically on eligible trades, so the tax is handled at source rather than left to you at filing time.
