VyprVPN commissioned a public no-logs audit in 2018, when the practice was rare, and has not commissioned another since. Everything else about this record follows from that gap.
Leviathan Security Group examined the VPN, authentication and API servers after the company overhauled its logging, and the audit is the reason VyprVPN spent years marketing itself as the first publicly audited no-log provider. Eight years is a long time in infrastructure. Every service on this page with a current audit has been examined more recently, several of them annually.
Ownership is the second problem, and an unusual one, because it cannot be settled from the vendor's own pages. Third-party reviewers reported in 2023 that Golden Frog sold VyprVPN to Certida LLC, a Texas company, moving the service out of Swiss jurisdiction into the United States. VyprVPN's own site does not mention Certida anywhere: it still describes Golden Frog, founded 2009, in the first person. Reported and unconfirmed is the honest description, and either way the operating base has long been Texas rather than Switzerland.
One genuine technical advantage survives all of this: VyprVPN owns its server hardware and network outright rather than renting from third-party hosts, which removes a layer of other people's infrastructure from the privacy question. Its proprietary Chameleon protocol targets networks that block VPN traffic.
For a bitcoin buyer the deciding fact is simpler. VyprVPN accepts no cryptocurrency, so the subscription ties to a card or a PayPal identity. Every other service reviewed here takes crypto.
