What is EPS?

eps, short for e-payment standard, is Austria's online banking payment method. You pick eps at checkout, choose your bank from a central list, and approve a transfer that is already filled in inside your own online banking, so there is no separate wallet or app to register for. The standard was built jointly by the Austrian banks and runs on infrastructure operated by PSA Payment Services Austria, it is supported by the major Austrian banking groups, and over 11,000 Austrian webshops accept it. It is also the usual way to pay Austrian e-government fees.

Speed

Your bank sends the merchant an electronic payment confirmation almost immediately, which is why an eps checkout completes in real time.

Cost

eps states there are no additional costs for the payer beyond whatever your own bank charges for an ordinary online transfer.

Limits

You authorise the payment inside your own online banking, so the ceiling that applies is your bank's own transfer limit rather than one set by eps.
