What is DuitNow?

DuitNow is Malaysia's instant account to account transfer service, run by Payments Network Malaysia (PayNet) on the Real time Retail Payments platform. PayNet is the national payments infrastructure company whose largest shareholder is Bank Negara Malaysia, alongside eleven Malaysian financial institutions. You send from the internet or mobile banking app of any of 42 participating banks, or from a participating eWallet, using either an account number or a DuitNow ID such as a mobile number, NRIC, passport number or business registration number.

Speed
Instant and available around the clock: the funds land in the recipient account within seconds of you confirming the transfer.
Cost
PayNet lists transfers up to RM5,000 as free, with a 50 sen (RM0.50) fee above that amount which many banks waive.
Limits
RM5,000 is the free tier boundary rather than a hard cap, and each participating bank sets its own per transfer and daily transfer limits on top.

We have not filmed a walkthrough for Malaysia yet, so this is our general one, from our YouTube channel @dontgetrekt. It also sits on the home page, next to the country search it starts from.

Do you need a VPN?

A VPN hides which sites you visit from the network you are on and from your internet provider, which is worth having when you move money over a connection you do not control. It does not get you past an exchange's identity checks: every platform we list verifies who you are no matter where you connect from.

If you want one, the strongest records on our list belong to NordVPN (6 independent no-logs audits, the most of any service we review), Windscribe (its no-logs claim tested in the real world 3 times) and Proton VPN (the most audited service with a free tier).
