3 of the 4 exchanges we recommend in Vatican City pay out in EUR: Kraken, Coinmama and CEX.IO. The rails are SEPA transfer, SEPA Instant and SWIFT transfer. The order below is the same ranking the buying guide uses; an exchange that appears there and not here publishes no EUR payout rail we could verify.
Where to sell and how the money comes out
| Exchange | Withdraw to | Fee | Speed | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kraken#1 in the buying guide | SEPA transfer | 1 EUR per withdrawal, 2 EUR minimum | 0 to 5 business days through Bank Frick or Banking Circle, 0 to 3 business days through Openpayd | SEPA reachable accounts only; a transfer may be processed as SWIFT, at SWIFT fees, where the IBAN is not SEPA-reachable. Kraken lists this rail for EUR payouts rather than for Vatican City by name. |
| SEPA Instant | 1 EUR through Banking Circle (2 EUR minimum), 0.90 EUR through ClearJunction (3 EUR minimum) | near-instant | SEPA Instant reachable accounts only; bank compliance checks may occasionally extend the time. Kraken lists this rail for EUR payouts rather than for Vatican City by name. | |
| SWIFT transfer | 5 EUR per withdrawal, 100 EUR minimum | 1 to 5 business days | Listed as worldwide, through Bank Frick. Kraken lists this rail for EUR payouts rather than for Vatican City by name. | |
| Coinmama#3 in the buying guide | SEPA transfer | Not recorded | a few business days | Pay-outs are EUR only, to a European bank account that supports SEPA transfers, on a minimum 200 USD sell order. |
| CEX.IO#4 in the buying guide | SEPA transfer | EUR 2.99 per withdrawal | Not recorded | Minimum withdrawal EUR 10, and at least Identity verification is required. CEX.IO lists this rail for EUR payouts rather than for Vatican City by name. |
"Not recorded" means the exchange's page we read carries no figure for that cell; the fee on the sale itself is separate and is on each review.
The payout rails in Vatican City
SEPA transfer
Paid out by Kraken, Coinmama, CEX.IO.
SEPA transfer is the ordinary euro bank transfer, formally the SEPA Credit Transfer scheme, which is run by the European Payments Council and reaches the 41 countries and territories of the Single Euro Payments Area. You send it from your normal bank account using the recipient's IBAN, and it is the standard way to move euro into an exchange account. It carries euro only, so a payment in any other currency falls outside the scheme and is priced differently by your bank.
The rail itself: One business day at most for an electronically submitted order, so a Friday evening transfer typically lands on Monday.

SEPA Instant
Paid out by Kraken.
SEPA instant is the real time version of the euro bank transfer, formally the SEPA Instant Credit Transfer scheme, launched by the European Payments Council in November 2017 and settled across Europe through instant payment infrastructure including the ECB's TIPS service. It works from an ordinary bank account with an IBAN and runs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, so a weekend exchange deposit arrives straight away rather than on the next business day. Not every payment service provider offers it yet: the EU Instant Payments Regulation is phasing the obligation in, with euro area banks already required to send and receive and non euro area providers following in 2027.
The rail itself: Funds must be made available to the recipient within ten seconds of the payment order, at any hour including weekends and public holidays.
SWIFT transfer
Paid out by Kraken.
A wire transfer is a bank to bank push payment sent over a high value settlement system, Fedwire in the United States and its equivalents elsewhere, routed through correspondent banks when it crosses a border. There is no chargeback: once the sending bank releases it the payment is effectively final, which is why exchanges accept wires for large deposits. A cross border wire can pass through one or more intermediary banks, each able to deduct its own charge before the money arrives.
The rail itself: A domestic wire clears the same business day, with Fedwire open from 9pm eastern the previous calendar day until 7pm eastern and closed on weekends and Federal Reserve holidays, while a cross border wire can take several business days.

Is selling bitcoin legal in Vatican City?
Vatican City has no legislation on bitcoin: buying and holding it is legal by default, and no Vatican authority licenses or supervises crypto services. The city state uses the euro under a monetary agreement with the European Union but is not an EU member, so the MiCA regulation does not apply within its walls; in practice residents rely on Italian banking and EU-regulated platforms next door. The Holy See has engaged mostly at the level of ethics, urging international regulation of crypto's misuse.
