One exchange turns Georgia away: Binance.US does not accept Georgia residents, but the other seven platforms we track, Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini, River, Swan Bitcoin, Strike, and Coinmama, all do. The state has regulated this business longer than most: the Georgia Department of Banking and Finance licenses sellers of payment instruments and money transmitters, and 2016 amendments wrote virtual currency into the statute's definitions, so an exchange holding your dollars operates under that license. Your buying routine is unaffected by any of it. Link a bank account, fund by ACH transfer for free, and place orders on the advanced trading interface rather than the instant-buy button. A debit card is quicker when you want bitcoin immediately, but expect to pay a fee premium for the speed.

Is bitcoin legal in Georgia?
Bitcoin is legal in Georgia. Oversight of exchanges runs through the Department of Banking and Finance under the Sale of Payment Instruments and Money Transmission Act, O.C.G.A. 7-1-680 and following. Amendments in 2016 added virtual currency to the statutory definitions, and the department requires a license before anyone engages in the transmission of virtual currency. Federal FinCEN registration and IRS rules apply on top, as they do in every state.
