Yape shows up in Peru as part of how people buy bitcoin locally, even though none of the exchanges we track lists it as a direct funding rail. The country guides below explain what that looks like in practice.

What is Yape?

Yape is a Peruvian mobile wallet launched by Banco de Credito del Peru in 2017 and run as a standalone app rather than a menu inside a banking app. Payments are addressed by mobile number or QR code and settle over Visa Direct. Eight financial institutions took part as of December 2024, among them BCP, MiBanco and several cajas municipales, and the central bank counted 17 million registered users in February 2025.

Speed
Instant, and Yape's own site says all you need is the recipient's QR code or mobile number.
Cost
Free for person to person payments per the BCRP, and Yape's own site states that a yapeo carries no cost and no interest; only merchants signed up to Yape Empresa pay, at 2.95 percent since May 2024.
Limits
The BCRP records limits of 500 soles per transaction, 2,000 soles sent per day and 25,750 soles received per day, so funding a large buy takes several days.

Speed and cost describe the rail itself. What an exchange adds on top varies by platform and is shown per exchange below.

Yape appears in one country guide on this site, Peru, where deposits settle in Peruvian sol (PEN). Buyers there fund exchange accounts with Bank transfer in soles or dollars, Plin, Credit or debit card as well, and the country guide ranks the exchanges that take each one.
