Tigo Money shows up in Honduras as part of how people buy bitcoin locally, even though none of the exchanges we track lists it as a direct funding rail. The country guides below explain what that looks like in practice.
What is Tigo Money?
Tigo Money is the mobile wallet Millicom operates in Honduras through Dinero Electronico S.A., known as Dinelsa, a non bank electronic money institution or INDEL regulated by the Banco Central de Honduras and supervised by the Comision Nacional de Bancos y Seguros. You turn cash into electronic money at an agent, then transfer to other wallets, pay utility and Tigo bills, pay affiliated merchants including by QR code, buy airtime, collect international remittances and withdraw cash. Note that Tigo Money is a separate service in each Millicom market, so Honduran limits and fees do not carry over to the Salvadoran or Bolivian versions.
- Speed
- Wallet to wallet transfers and agent deposits post immediately, so the balance is usable as soon as the confirmation arrives.
- Cost
- The published schedule charges L.1.00 per transfer between users and nothing to credit the wallet by card, by electronic money or from a remittance, while cash withdrawals cost 6 percent below L.2,000, 5 percent from L.2,000 to L.3,999.99 and 4 percent above L.4,000.
- Limits
- The terms cap the wallet balance at L.15,000, monthly credits and debits at L.30,000, and activity at 100 transactions per month.
Speed and cost describe the rail itself. What an exchange adds on top varies by platform and is shown per exchange below.
