What is Orange Money?
Orange Money is the mobile money wallet offered by the local Orange entities across 17 countries in Africa and the Middle East, coordinated by Orange Money Group, the mobile financial services arm of the telecoms group Orange. Your phone number is the account: you load cash with an Orange agent or in a shop, then send, pay and withdraw from the handset. To fund an exchange with it the money has to be sitting in the wallet already, so the usual sequence is an agent deposit followed by a transfer.

- Wallet to wallet transfers are effectively immediate; the slow part is travelling to an agent to put the cash in.
- Cost
- Depositing is free, while withdrawals and transfers are charged per country: Orange Cameroon, for example, takes 1 percent plus 4 CFA francs on withdrawals between 5,000 and 399,999 CFA francs.
- Limits
- Ceilings follow the account tier: in Cote d'Ivoire a Lite account is capped at 200,000 CFA francs while a Premium account allows 7,500,000 CFA francs a day.
