What is MyZaka?

MyZaka is the mobile money service run by Mascom, one of Botswana's mobile networks. Mascom customers hold a wallet on the phone and use it to send money to registered and unregistered recipients, withdraw cash at agents, buy prepaid electricity and airtime, and pay bills. It also connects to bank accounts: Mascom runs bank to wallet transfers with Absa and Standard Chartered, and issues a MyZaka Visa card. Mobile money in Botswana falls under the Bank of Botswana's electronic payment services licensing regime.

Wallet to wallet transfers and agent cash outs complete while you wait, while bank to wallet transfers depend on the partner bank.

Cost

Mascom charges a flat P5.00 to send to a registered MyZaka recipient, nothing to load money or buy airtime, and P6.00 to P175.00 to withdraw cash depending on the band.

Limits

Mascom lists a transfer range of P25.00 to P10,000.00 per transaction, with the minimum since reduced to P6.00.
