What is EcoCash?
EcoCash is the Econet Wireless group's mobile money wallet, best known in Zimbabwe and also offered in Lesotho and Burundi through the group's local operators. In Lesotho it is run by Cassava Fintech Lesotho and overseen by the Central Bank of Lesotho's national payments systems supervision division, and it is used to send and receive money, buy airtime and data, pay bills and pay merchants. Money goes in as cash at a registered agent and comes back out the same way, which is what makes it workable for paying a local counterparty.

- Sends and merchant payments confirm within seconds of the PIN prompt, and a cash deposit at a registered agent credits the wallet immediately.
- Cost
- Fees are flat amounts by band deducted from the wallet as each transaction completes: in Lesotho a send of M1 to M50 costs M1, and cash out runs from M1.50 on the smallest band to M12.22 on the largest published one.
- Limits
- Daily limits are tiered by how much identity verification the wallet carries and are approved by the central bank, so a lightly verified wallet caps out well below a fully verified one.
