BitPesa is now AZA Finance

Last reviewed 2026-08-12

The BitPesa brand is retired

BitPesa rebranded to AZA Finance, and dLocal announced its acquisition in June 2025. It is a B2B cross-border payments company now, not a retail bitcoin exchange. Visit AZA Finance

You cannot buy bitcoin through BitPesa: the company became AZA Finance, a business-to-business cross-border payments firm, and payments processor dLocal announced a deal to acquire it in June 2025.

BitPesa launched in Nairobi in 2013 as one of the first companies to use bitcoin for real work: settling cross-border payments between African currencies faster and cheaper than the correspondent banking system. It rebranded to AZA Finance in 2019 as the business shifted from bitcoin rails to foreign exchange and treasury services for companies operating across Africa.

By the time dLocal announced its acquisition in June 2025, AZA Finance had processed over 15 million transactions and moved more than 9 billion dollars, entirely for business clients. There is no retail product: individuals cannot open an account to buy or hold bitcoin.

If you came here looking for the service BitPesa once pointed toward, Yellow Card covers bitcoin purchases with local currency across much of Africa, and Luno serves markets including Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa.
