Newton review
Newton is a commission-free Canadian platform, which is accurate and slightly misleading at the same time. There is no fee line, but there is a spread, and the spread is the whole cost.
Founded in Toronto in 2018, Newton Crypto Ltd. is registered with the Canadian Securities Administrators as a crypto asset trading platform and appears on the AMF register, so it serves Quebec as well as the rest of Canada. It is CAD-native throughout, with no conversion on the way in or out.
The spread runs from roughly 0.7 percent at the tightest tier to around 1.6 percent at the widest, depending on your trading volume. That is better than the 1.5 to 2 percent a pure app-style platform charges and worse than the 0.10 to 0.20 percent an order book does. The honest way to read it: Newton sits between the two, and the marketing word "commission-free" tells you nothing about which end you are at.
Funding is genuinely good. Interac e-Transfer deposits are free up to 10,000 dollars a day, electronic funds transfers are free up to 50,000 dollars a day, and wires above 10,000 dollars are free, with a flat fee only in the band below that. CAD withdrawals are free.

Pros and cons
What works
- Free funding across Interac, electronic funds transfer and larger wires, with generous daily limits
- CAD-native end to end, so there is no currency conversion cost on either side
- CSA-registered and on the AMF register, so it serves Quebec residents too
- Free CAD withdrawals, which several Canadian competitors charge for
What to watch
- "No commission" hides a spread of roughly 0.7 to 1.6 percent, which is the actual cost
- The tighter spread tiers require trading volume most personal buyers will never reach
- More expensive than an order-book platform for anyone buying in size
Fees in detail
- spread note
- The cost is entirely in the spread, roughly 0.7 percent at the tightest tier and around 1.6 percent at the widest. There is no separate commission.
- deposit note

Frequently asked questions
Is Newton actually free to trade on?
No. There is no commission line, but the price you are quoted carries a spread of roughly 0.7 to 1.6 percent depending on your tier. Commission-free is not the same as cost-free.
How does Newton compare with Bitbuy or NDAX on cost?
It usually costs more. NDAX charges a flat 0.20 percent and Bitbuy Pro starts at 0.10 percent maker. Newton's spread sits above both, though it beats the 1.5 to 2 percent a pure app-style platform charges.
What are Newton's deposit limits?
Interac e-Transfer is free up to 10,000 dollars a day and electronic funds transfers up to 50,000 dollars a day. Wires above 10,000 dollars are free; below that band a flat fee applies.
Can I use Newton in Quebec?
Yes. Newton Crypto Ltd. appears on the AMF register of cryptoasset trading platforms, the extra registration Quebec requires alongside CSA registration.
