Buying and holding bitcoin is legal in Bolivia. Board Resolution 082/2024 of the Banco Central de Bolivia, issued in June 2024, repealed the earlier prohibition and allowed financial entities to process crypto transactions through authorized electronic channels. The central bank stresses that the boliviano remains the only legal tender and that nobody is obliged to accept crypto as payment. A proposal to integrate the stablecoin USDT into the national payment system remains under technical review.
